Submission Guidelines

Please find submission guidelines for JALE submissions here:

General Guidelines

1. We accept articles by mail or by e-mail (Microsoft Word format) only. Manuscripts sent by mail will not be returned. Please note that if an article sent by mail is selected for publication, we will eventually require an electronic version.

Articles should be mailed to:
The Journal of Animal Law and Ethics
The University of Pennsylvania Law School
3400 Chestnut Street
Philadelphia, PA 19104

or e-mailed to: jale@law.upenn.edu

2. We will consider articles, notes, comments and other scholarly works on any aspect of animal law and ethics.

3. Articles that have been pre-empted by another article or a court decision will automatically be disqualified.

4. We prefer articles to be 40-80 pages, and student comments or notes to be 25-40 pages (12 point courier font, 1 inch margins). We will consider articles of any length, but significantly longer articles will not be published unless the length is merited.

5. Please use footnotes instead of endnotes. All submissions must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (17th or 18th edition).

6. Please include a cover sheet that includes the following information: full name, article title, contact information (including email address) affiliation and biographical information.

7. The Journal of Animal Law and Ethics thoroughly reviews all articles received. The selection process includes a majority vote by the articles editors followed by a submission to the editor-in-chief before a final decision is made.
