Updated Brown Bag Discussion Topics

CLSA members have suggested the following topics for our brown bag discussions:

- The codification of PRC civil law
- Hong Kong politics and one country, two systems in Hong Kong
- The PRC and the WTO
- PRC bankruptcy law* (to be held after the promulgation of the new bankruptcy law)
- PRC company law* (to be held in late March or early April)
- PRC democratization and elections
- PRC economic reform
- PRC environmental law
- PRC foreign direct investment
- PRC intellectual property law
- PRC law regarding religious freedom
- PRC property law* (to be held during the week of February 14)
- The Results of NPC meeting in March (to be held after the NPC meeting)
- Taiwan's elections and politics* and cross-strait issues (to be held before spring break)

Our discussions have already covered the following topics.

- PRC politics: The death of Zhao Ziyang

Our discussions this semester will generally alternate between Mondays at 1:30PM and Fridays at 1:30PM, locations to be announced.

Brown Bag Lunch Discussions

CLSA will be hosting weekly brown-bag lunches with Professor Jacques deLisle and other guests to discuss issues related to Chinese law. Each week we will cover a different topic chosen by CLSA members. The lunches will be held at the law school, locations TBA.
  1. The Chinese Legal Studies Association will be hosting a brown bag discussion on Chinese politics with Professor Jacques deLisle on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at 1:30PM in T145.

  2. Thereafter we have tentatively scheduled our brown bag lunches on Mondays and Fridays at 1:30PM, location to be announced each week. If neither of these times work for you, please send an email to vpace@law.upenn.edu.

  3. Below is a preliminary list of topics to be discussed. If you have an additional topic that you would like to discuss, please send an email to vpace@law.upenn.edu.

    • To choose the topic for each week's discussion based on CLSA member input.
    • To reserve the room at the law school where the discussion will be held.
    • To notify CLSA members and the law school community at large about our discussions.
