Penn Law is noted for its commitment to diversity. The admissions chair is the liaison between Penn BLSA and Penn Law's Admissions Office and assists in the increased recruitment and enrollment of African American law students in the law school.

Penn BLSA sincerely values the relationship maintained between its current students and its alumni, and the Alumni Development Chair serves as the liaison between Penn BLSA & PALAAS (Penn Alumni Law African American Society).
Black History Month

To celebrate and highlight the achievements of African Americans, and invite dialogue on the role of African Americans in the legal community, the Black History Month Committee is responsible for sponsoring Black History Month activities at Penn Law. These activities include “Taste of the Diaspora,” designed to share the cultural importance of traditional African American, African and Caribbean foods with the general Penn Law community.

The Community Service Chair maintains the relationship between Penn BLSA and the greater Philadelphia community by leading community service projects for the Penn BLSA membership.

Each year, Penn BLSA competes in the NBLSA annual Moot Court Competition, which requires each team to write an appellate brief and argue the case before a panel of judges.
Fundraising

The fundraising chair develops and implements innovative fundraising programs for the year. Our annual fundraising events including exam-gram sales, t-shirts for BLSA t-shirt day and our continued effort to fund a civil rights professorship in the name of Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander.
Historian

The historian photographs and keeps record of BLSA events. In the spring, Penn BLSA compiles the pictures from the year and submits a scrapbook to the Mid Atlantic BLSA conference scrapbook competition.

The 1L Co-Chairs assist incoming first year students with their transition into law school. First year students are welcomed to Penn Law and the BLSA family through the many programs sponsored by the 1L Co-Coordinators throughout the school year. 1Ls receive a special BLSA orientation, a “BLSA Buddy,” Exam/Study seminars, and Writing Competition Training.

BLSA's annual student-run conference is the primary fundraising effort (within the University) to endow a civil rights professorship in Dr. Alexander's name. This committee embarks upon the year-long effort to coordinate and host the conference which culminates Penn BLSA's Black History Month celebration.
