2005-2006 LALSA EXECUTIVE BOARD!

President

Jolene Negre
Class of 2006
Amherst College
Major: Political Science & Spanish with a Latin American Studies certificate
jnegre@law.upenn.edu

As LALSA President it is my goal to maintain a strong Latino presence on campus while reaching out to other communities as well. LALSA seeks to provide academic, professional, and social resources for Penn Law students. I will also work closely with ULSCC and the Penn ALSAs in the continued effort to fund the Alexander Chair for Civil Rights. Admissions and enrollment are of particular importance to me, and I
hope to leave this year knowing that Latinos are well represented in next year's 1L class.

Vice President for Community Affairs

Jason Kupper
Class of 2007
University of Southern California
jkupper@law.upenn.edu.

As Vice President of Community Affairs, I plan on scheduling a variety of community service events over the course of the academic year.  Some of the organizations we will be working with include Philadelphia Legal Assistance Migrant Farm Workers program, Ceiba (tax-preparation assistance program), Nueva Esperanza, and Norris Square Neighborhood Project.  Details on these events will be forthcoming.

Vice President of Academic Affairs

Frank Martinez
Class of 2007
Milwaukee, WI
Swarthmore College
fmartinez@law.upenn.edu

My job is to help ensure that Penn's LALSA community has a smooth experience with the primary aspect of law school -- our academic lives. I will organize sessions for first year students on how to study and, later on, how to prepare for exams. The commercial outline library in LALSA's office will be available to all members during weekly open houses that I will hold in the LALSA office. With long term results in mind, I also hope to continue LALSA's efforts to reach out to the next generation of Latin lawyers by recruiting potential law students, providing information to applicants, and helping young Hispanic students in Philadelphia.

Vice President of Social Affairs

Corey Fulton
Class of 2007
Chicago, IL
Cornell University
cefulton@law.upenn.edu

As the VP of Social Affairs I'd like to see bigger and better turnouts at our LALSA events! I'm also going to try to mix it up a bit and put together a few events that stray from (but will be in addition to!) the usual happy
hours and potlucks. Would like to see more LALSA spirit--ie possibly t-shirts commemorating La Gran Fiesta, or just LALSA t-shirts in general?

Vice President of Technology

Ariel Oxman
Class of 2007
Rockville, MD
University of Maryland
aoxman@law.upenn.edu

I am the VP of Technology and my main goal is to apply modern technology to make LALSA more interactive. With the help of others (i.e. Jason Zack), I’ll connect LALSA directly to the general body through our website. I’ll include all essential information, upcoming events, and even a picture section on the website. Further, I’ll update our outline database to help our 1Ls ace their exams.

Vice President of Alumni Relations

Daque Tirado
Class of 2006
dtirado@law.upenn.edu

Secretary

Rodger Pichardo aka Chardo
Class of 2007
Kansas City, MO
Rice University
rpichard@law.upenn.edu

As Secretary, I plan on keeping LALSA as organized as possible so that everyone has access to the information necessary to succeed. I hope that the channels of communication are always open. I would like to plan meetings and events to maximize attendance and increase interest in LALSA.

Treasurer

Jennifer Gonzales
Class of 2007
Hometown: New York CIty
email:
jtgonzal@law.upenn.edu

I am the treasurer of Lalsa and I plan to carefully keep track of the organization's expenses and assets so that we will be able to afford more opportunities for activities such as happy hours, La Gran Fiesta, workshops, potlucks, etc. One way that members can help me to achieve these goals is by paying dues. If you have not done so, please pay your $10 dues for the year. Thanks.
