Taking Courses in Other Departments

At Penn Law, students can take and receive credit toward their J.D. degree for up to four courses at the graduate schools and professional departments on campus. Think about what this means: students can study at the acclaimed Wharton School, at the School of Medicine, in the Annenberg School for Communication, at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, or at any one of the other six schools or various graduate departments in the School of Arts and Sciences.

In recent semesters, students have studied in courses as diverse as Behavioral Economics or Venture Capital and Finance Innovation at the Wharton School, Medical Issues in the Public Arena in the Bioethics Department at the Medical Center, and Dealing with the Media at the Fels Institute of Government.

At Penn, this kind of cross-enrollment is made simple by the cooperation between departments and by our proximity to one another. The Penn campus is easily navigable on foot, with all departments located within seven square blocks.
