The aim of the JD/Masters in City Planning (MCP) program is to train leaders who can blend the professional concerns of law with city and regional planning. Graduates acquire valuable tools for state, local, and regional land-use planning and are well-prepared to assume leadership roles as state, local, national, and international policy makers. The program allows students to expand the range of frameworks applicable to decision making in land use policy, real estate law, and related fields, and stimulates interdisciplinary collaboration in planning and implementation.

Students can earn both degrees in four years. Penn Law gives credit for four relevant courses in Design toward the JD degree. Students complete 19 courses for the MCP degree: ten core requirements, five elective courses taken in their area of interest, and four taken at the Law School.

Students apply separately to each department. Applications to the MCP program are welcomed contemporaneously with the Law School application or during the 1L year. The LSAT is sufficient for both departments; no additional testing is required.
