Student Perspectives on Cross-Disciplinary Study

These responses were excerpted from an anonymous Penn Law student survey conducted in winter 2006:

How would you describe Penn Law to a stranger who is interested in law school?

  • Penn is a great place to study law - it is a great community and the program is so inter-disciplinary - you can take advantage of Penn's resources in all of its other graduate programs while working on your law degree!
  • Collegial. Friendly. Students and faculty willing to help each other, but add Penn's emphasis of interdisciplinary study.
  • One of the top law schools in the US. Great environment, highly regarded by law firms, opportunities for cross-disciplinary education.
  • Excellent law school with many opportunities for interdisciplinary study. Collegial as law school can be.
  • It's a really good school for students interested in cross-disciplinary studies, whether or not you're interested in a certificate or joint degree program.

List the top three strengths of Penn Law

  • Cross-disciplinary study opportunities are terrific. The joint-degree programs are awesome, and so are the certificate programs. It's great to be able to take 12 credits outside of the law school, esp. at a place like Wharton.
  • Interdisciplinary education of many of the professors, I enjoy their unique perspectives in class.
  • Variety of cross-disciplinary classes offered.
  • The University resources.
  • Associated with the University of Pennsylvania: facilities, events, programs
  • Faculty's cross-disciplinary educational background
  • The cross-disciplinary approach
  • Allowing students to take courses in other schools and pursue certificates or joint degrees.
  • Our interdisciplinary faculty and joint degree opportunities
  • Reasonable flexibility to pursue joint degree opportunities.
  • Strength of academic program, including cross-disciplinary study.
  • Location - in a university with other strong graduate programs
  • Interdisciplinary emphasis.
