Philadelphia and Beyond

Many of Penn Law’s programs extend beyond the Law School and the University, allowing students to further pursue their cross-disciplinary education.

Public Service Program

As part of the Public Service requirement for graduation, Penn Law students complete a mandatory 70 hours of public service. Students can often select areas of cross-disciplinary interest among the hundreds of placements available to them or they can initiate one to meet their needs.

Examples of cross-disciplinary pro bono placements include field work for the Center for Biomedical Ethics, the Center for Community Partnerships, and Justice Talking. Several of our student-run pro bono projects have forged unique and effective alliances with graduate schools, such as our Penn Advocates for the Homeless (in collaboration with the Penn School of Social Policy & Practice) and our Animal Rights Project (with a student group at the Veterinary School). The Program also sponsors a wide range of cross-disciplinary events including the Public Service Speaker Series, Constitution Day, and the Edward V. Sparer Symposium.
