As a previous post about a new exhibit at Biddle suggested, copyright is an area of the law in which Biddle librarians and the larger Penn Law community share a special interest.
As librarians, we are committed to managing and delivering information--which takes a variety of forms, including books, electronic databases, and multimedia--to you, the students, faculty, and staff of Penn Law. Thus, we try to remain aware of the restrictions on that management and distribution, vis-à-vis copyright. Law students and faculty, in turn, may have an interest in the intricacies of copyright law from a scholarly or professional perspective, but also from a practical one: copyright affects how they use or receive information.
With that in mind, you may want to take a look at a database developed by the folks at Stanford, cheekily nicknamed the "Copyright Determinator," which helps librarians determine the copyright status of library materials before starting a digitization project. I found the link via a blog I read about digitization, but I think the implications reflect the interdisciplinary for which Penn Law prides itself.
