Profile: Marcia D. Greenberger L'70
Marcia Greenberger's commitment to public
service has taken her into battles and women
have come out the winners. In fact, Marcia
firmly believes that men and children have
emerged victorious, too. As founder and
co-president of the National Women's Law
Center, she has used litigation and legislation
initiatives to fight gender inequalities on every
front: employment, education, family, economic
security, health and reproductive rights.
Her education at Penn Law prepared her well.
"From Con Law to Tax Law, from spirited moot
courts to challenging seminars, I credit the Law
School and its extraordinary faculty for giving
me the training and, even more important, the
inspiration I needed to succeed," Marcia recalls.
After decades of legal combat, Marcia finds no
foe too intimidating - not even, perhaps
especially, in a challenging political climate.
With many of the Center's hard-won gains
being challenged today, she remains resilient
and committed. "Even in tough times, we can
find ways to maneuver and put our agenda
forward," she says. And she remembers to think
of what Martin Luther King said: "The moral
arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards
justice."
