Rebecca Lieberman, L’97 never wrote a tell-all book
about her father’s quest for the White House. She nonetheless
offers choice words on how media coverage of the presidential
race shortchanges the candidates and ultimately the electorate. Speaking at a panel discussion on the 2008 election during reunion weekend in May, Lieberman said her father, Joe, did not receive the coverage afforded the top-tier candidates when he ran in 2004. She complained that he gave serious policy speeches but was ignored because the press decided that he could not win. And she said the same thing is happening to current Democratic candidates such as Joe Biden and Bill Richardson, in effect crippling their bids and marginalizing their messages. |
