“Some people watch too much ’24’,” he said of the tension-filled TV drama. “Some things on the Internet are, indeed, written by 14-year-olds in Ohio. It is my job to figure out what is real.” To that end, he studies Web sites for clues and talks, via email, with diverse groups from law enforcement to those he believes are active terrorists, or informants. “The Internet opens them up. They can say things that they certainly couldn’t if I were face-to-face with them. It gives them a shield of anonymity,” he said. |
