Serena Mayeri joins Penn Law as a scholar of legal
history, family law, and antidiscrimination law, with a special
interest in the relationship between
law and social movements.
This year, she will teach
a Family Law course and a
legal history seminar entitled
Law and Social Movements in
Twentieth-Century America.
Mayeri has focused her research
on the historical impact
of progressive and conservative social movements on legal and
constitutional change. She has explored how lawyers, judges,
activists, politicians, and ordinary citizens reasoned about the
relationship between racial justice and women’s rights during
the 1960s and 1970s.
