Safra Catz

Safra Catz is President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Oracle Corporation, reporting to Larry Ellison, Oracle’s CEO. In her lecture for ILE, Ms. Catz spoke on how to drive strategic change in a complex, global business.

Ms. Catz has been a member of Oracle’s Board of Directors since October 2001. She serves on Oracle’s Executive Management Committee and is responsible for global operations. Previously, she served as Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President. Prior to joining Oracle, Ms. Catz was at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, a global investment bank that has since merged with Credit Suisse First Boston, where she was a Managing Director from February 1997 to March 1999, and a Senior Vice President from January 1994 until February 1997.

Ms. Catz is a graduate of the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Robert Friedman

Robert Friedman has been with Blackstone since 1999. He has worked primarily in Blackstone’s Private Equity group and has also participated in the work of the Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory group. Since early 2003, he has also been the Chief Legal Officer and quarterbacked Blackstone’s recent IPO. Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Friedman had been a partner with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett for 25 years, where he was a senior member of that law firm’s mergers and acquisitions practice. At Simpson Thacher, Mr. Friedman advised The Blackstone Group since the firm was founded in 1985. Mr. Friedman graduated from Columbia College and received a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Isaac Corré

Isaac Corré is responsible for the event-oriented activities of Eton Park.

Prior to joining Eton Park, Isaac was a partner at Scoggin Capital Management, a New York-based multi-strategy hedge fund. At Scoggin, he managed the merger arbitrage and special situations portfolio that included investments in complex restructurings, stub trades and securities affected by legal and regulatory changes. Mr. Corré also managed the firm’s investment in a sovereign trade claims business. He was deeply involved in managing the distressed debt and value equities portfolios.

Before joining Scoggin, Mr. Corré practiced law for more than nine years. His legal practice focused principally on complex commercial litigation, involving mergers and acquisitions, securities issuance, corporate governance and bankruptcy.

Isaac Corré graduated with a BA, summa cum laude, from Yeshiva University in 1985 and earned a JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1989. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Yeshiva University business school and is a member of the Board of Advisors of Penn's Institute for Law and Economics.

Pamela Daley

Pamela Daley, Senior Vice President for Corporate Business Development at GE, is responsible for GE's mergers, acquisitions, and divestiture activities worldwide.

Before assuming her present position, she was Vice President and Senior Counsel for Transactions at GE. Before arriving at GE in 1989, Miss Daley was a tax partner of the national law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius where she specialized in tax-oriented financings and M&A. From 1982 to 1989, she was an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she taught federal income taxation of partners and partnerships.

Miss Daley serves on the Board of Directors of General Electric Capital Corporation, GE Capital Services, Inc., the GE Foundation, and the World Wildlife Fund, and is a past director of Genworth Financial, Inc. (NYSE: GNW) (2004-2006). She also serves on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Daley received her B.A. degree with highest honors from Princeton University in 1974 in Romance Languages and Literatures. In 1979, she graduated first in her class from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif.

Henry Silverman

Henry R. Silverman graduated from Williams College in 1961 and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1964. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1965 to 1972. From 1997 through August 2006, Silverman served as chairman and CEO of Cendant Corporation, ranked 107th in the 2006 Fortune magazine list of the 500 largest U.S. companies. Cendant was the largest global provider of consumer and business services within the travel and residential real estate sectors before its decision to separate into four new companies effective July 31, 2006.

In August 2006 Silverman was named chairman & CEO of Realogy Corporation,the world's largest residential brokerage franchisor and the largest U.S. residential real estate brokerage firm. Realogy Corporation is composed of the business units from Cendant's former Real Estate Services Division.

Prior to the formation of Cendant in 1997, Silverman was chairman, president and chief executive officer of HFS Incorporated, which he founded in 1990. As an investor in and manager of private equity during the 1980s, Silverman's principal area of focus was Days Inns of America, later acquired by Cendant. In 1985, Silverman also founded Telemundo Group, which was sold to General Electric Company in 2002 for $2.7 billion.

In addition to his position at Realogy, Silverman currently serves as chairman of the Business Roundtable's Fiscal Policy Task Force. Additionally, he is a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and chairman of its finance committee. Silverman is also a trustee of New York University and its School of Medicine and Medical Center, and a director of the NYU Child Study Center; a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania; a member of JP Morgan's National Advisory Board and a member of the G-100.

Silverman's philanthropy includes Silverman Hall, the law school building at the University of Pennsylvania; the Silverman-Rodin scholars and the Silverman Professor of Law at Penn Law School; and the Silverman Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Silverman Reproductive Choice Foundation and the Silverman Cancer Research Laboratories at NYU School of Medicine.

In 1998, Silverman received the American Heritage Award from the Anti-Defamation League for lifetime achievement in fighting discrimination. He has been honored twice for his efforts to promote diversity in the workplace—first in 2001,by the Jackie Robinson Foundation and again in 2003, by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Michael J. Biondi

Michael J. Biondi is Co-Chairman of Investment Banking at Lazard Ltd, and a Managing Director of the Firm. He has extensive experience advising companies and independent board committees on domestic and cross-border transactions in a broad array of industries, including media/communications, transportation, utilities, general industrial and retail.

Mr. Biondi's talk, “The Banker as Entrepreneur,” will focus on his experiences in starting and building the boutique investment bank, Wasserstein Perella & Co., and ultimately selling it for $1.37 billion. More recently, Biondi has played a key role at Lazard as part of the team that assumed control and took the company public.

He joined Lazard from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he held a number of senior positions, including Chairman and Co-Chief Executive of the Americas and Co-Head of Global Investment Banking. Prior to that, he was a founding partner of Wasserstein Perella & Co., and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 1996 until its sale in early 2001.

Mr. Biondi began his M&A career as a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Marcia Greenberger

Marcia Greenberger--described by the New York Times as “guiding the battles of the women’s rights movement"--is the founder and Co-President of the National Women's Law Center. The creation the Center over 30 years ago established her as the first full-time women's rights legal advocate in Washington, D.C.

A recognized expert on sex discrimination and the law, Ms. Greenberger has participated in the development of key legislative initiatives and litigation protecting women's rights, particularly in the areas of education, employment, health and reproductive rights. She has been a leader in developing strategies to secure the successful passage of legislation protecting women and counsel in landmark litigation establishing new legal precedents for women, and is the author of numerous published articles. Her leadership and contributions are reflected in the professional honors she has received and the numerous boards on which she serves. Recognized by Working Woman Magazine as one of the 25 heroines whose activities over 25 years have helped women in the workplace, and Washingtonian Magazine as one of Washington, D.C.’s most powerful women, she was awarded the Alumni Award of Merit from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2001 and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Lafayette College in 2000. She was selected to receive the Hope Award from Calvary Women’s Shelter in 2005, an award from the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association in 2005, the Woman of Distinction Award from Soroptomist International of the Americas in 2000, the Woman Lawyer of the Year Award by the D.C. Women's Bar Association in 1996, honored by the Center Law and Social Policy in 1995, and given the William J. Brennan, Jr. Award by the District of Columbia Bar in 1994. She received a Presidential appointment to the National Skill Standards Board, is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship Program Board of Directors, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice Board of Directors, and the National Policy Council of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund.

Ms. Greenberger received her B.A. with honors in 1967, and her J.D. cum laude in 1970, from the University of Pennsylvania. She practiced law with the Washington, D.C., firm of Caplin and Drysdale from 1970-72, and in 1972 she started and became Director of the Women's Rights Project of the Center Law and Social Policy, which became the National Women’s Law Center in 1981.

Val Ackerman

Val Ackerman is the President of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The WNBA is affiliated with the 30-team National Basketball Association (NBA), and since its inaugural season in 1997 has become one of the pre-eminent women’s professional sports organizations in the world. The league features 13 teams, world-class players, national network and corporate support and an avid fan following. Under Val's leadership, the WNBA has also become a recognized advocate in the areas of breast health awareness, fitness, literacy and Title IX.

Val served as an attorney and executive in the NBA for eight years prior to her appointment to head the WNBA in 1996. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of USA Basketball, the Executive Committee of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the National Board of Trustees for the March of Dimes and the National Board of Girls Incorporated.

Val graduated from the University of Virginia, where she was a four-year starter for the women’s basketball team and a two-time Academic All-American, and she received her law degree from UCLA. In 1997, she was named Distinguished Alumna of the Year by the U. Va. Women's Center. She and her husband, Charlie Rappaport, have two daughters, Emily and Sally.
